First Day of School

Tofel Test and Homeschooling

Tianyan had her Tofel test today at the college.  For those of you that don't know what a Tofel test is ......a test to see how much English she understands and comprehends.

While we were waiting for Tianyan to complete her I loaded up Emily and Hannah to do there school work in Bakersfield today.  We had our classes at McDonald's near the college.  Hannah thought it was pretty funny that we were doing school work at McDonald's.  It was kind of fun to be at a different place.  Change of scene.

Hailey was working at the radio station so we stopped by to see her. Hannah thought it was pretty cool to see the station and Hailey at work.

Dai Break Flood

Well, the fall season has gotten off to an interesting start! As the staff arrived to start their shift today, they were greeted with a splashing surprise. Somehow, water leaked all over the facility, and flooded the building. Standing water
of about two inches throughout the entire building.

Had to move everything outside.

Christie, yea she's a little tired after all this. 

We had to have some fun! So, why not make a body outline, since the new

carpet will just be put over it? 

"Forget the gym. Just pull up 5,000 square feet of decade old carpet."

The boss. Always being in charge. 

Now the building is nearly empty, and we have to re-organize everything to keep the facility running 

while we fix this. If you know anyone that is able to donate their time, money, or as odd as it sounds, carpet, we as a non-profit organization would greatly appreciate it! It's difficult being non-profit with lower funds, especially when things like this happen. 

Birthday Dinner at Outback

Our August Birthday dinner. Megan's birthday was the 8th and David's was the 11th. They choice for dinner was Outback. Thanks Mom & Dad! The next dinner will be in October!! There is a grand total of 16 of us now!

Tianyan First Day of School

Tianyan first day of school!! 

BCHS Orientation

Tianyan had new student orientation today. I think she was pretty nervous at first, but when she saw that there were going to be other Chinese kids in her class she was pretty happy. Her experience here is different from the other Chinese kids. Tianyan is here to learn as much English as she can and to learn about the American culture. She also got her lock today. When I was picking her up from orientation I noticed her squatting down at the lockers trying to open it. I walked over to see what she was doing when I realized this girl has NEVER opened a locker. We sat there until she mastered the skill of opening a lock.  I think this is among a lot of first for her. I know I have only had her one week but I can't express how lucky we are to have gotten such a sweet girl.  She is pretty much welling to try anything once. I think this is going to be a fun year.
